Preliminary Bouts Leading up to the main card at UFC 194.

The UFC’s first visit to the Philippines on May 16 will have a main event fight fans have wanted to see for years, as former UFC world lightweight champion Frankie Edgar takes on former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber in a meeting of two lighter weight class pioneers. In lightweight bouts, Tae Hyun Bang takes on Jon Tuck and Zhang Lipeng faces Kajan Johnson. At 125 pounds, Yao Zhikui battles Nolan Ticman and the Philippines' own Roldan Sangcha-an meets Jon Delos Reyes, and in the welterweight division, Li Jingliang squares off with Roger Zapata.

The event will be the first UFC event broadcast on Fox Sports 1. The main event is expected to be contested between former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Maurício Rua and Chael Sonnen. The bout was first linked to UFC 161, as Sonnen was briefly mentioned as a short notice replacement for Rua's original opponent Antônio Rogério Nogueira, who had bowed out of the bout with a back injury. Sonnen's status as a felon created travel issues to get into Canada, resulting in Rua being pulled from the event altogether.

To coincide with the single release, the website 24hoursofhappy.com was launched, featuring a visual presentation of "Happy", which was advertised as being "the world's first 24-hour music video." The video was shot by steadicam operator Jon Beattie, its creative director was Yoann Lemoine and its director the French directing team We Are from LA. It consists of the four-minute song repeated multiple times, with various people dancing around Los Angeles and miming along. The website allows users to navigate to various points in the 24-hour timeframe, including all 360 four-minute segments.

UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Benavidez 2 (also known as UFC on Fox 9) was a mixed martial arts event held on December 14, 2013 at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California. It was the UFC's third visit to the venue, after UFC 65 and UFC 73.

The event was the first that the UFC has hosted in San Jose, the longtime home and base arena for Strikeforce. UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez was originally expected to have his first title defense against Junior dos Santos at this event. However, on September 2, 2011, the UFC announced that fight would be moved to the inaugural UFC on Fox event. Vitor Belfort was briefly linked to a matchup with Cung Le at this event. However, Belfort was removed from the bout and replaced by Wanderlei Silva. Dana White announced that the winner of the main event between Rua and Henderson will likely be in line for a Light Heavyweight title shot.

UFC 132 was originally set to feature a rematch between B.J. Penn and Jon Fitch, but both were forced to withdraw because of injuries. Evan Dunham was expected to face George Sotiropoulos at the event, but was forced off the card with an injury and replaced by Rafael dos Anjos. Jason Miller was scheduled to face Aaron Simpson at this event. However, Miller was removed from the card after accepting a coaching position on The Ultimate Fighter 14, and replaced by Brad Tavares. Cub Swanson was expected to face Erik Koch at this event, but was forced from the bout with an injury. Koch was instead moved to UFC Fight Night 25 to take on Jonathan Brookins.

WEC 38: Varner vs. Cerrone was a mixed martial arts event held by World Extreme Cagefighting on January 25, 2009. It aired live on the Versus Network. In the main event WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner defended his title against number one contender and undefeated Donald Cerrone. Also featured on the card was a rematch between former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber and Jens Pulver.

WEC 36: Faber vs. Brown took place on November 5, 2008 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The event aired live on the Versus Network. Paulo Filho fought again against Chael Sonnen in the main event of the evening. WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber also put his belt on the line against Mike Brown.
