ANDRÉ'S EYES is an experimental docudrama in which the actual family members themselves participate in the recreation of their own story. Set in a small village in the Portuguese countryside, the film follows the struggle of a divorced father to keep his family together after his youngest son is taken away from them and placed in a foster family.
Maria da Luz is almost blind. She's been waiting for cataract surgery for 3 years. António, an old fisherman, takes care of her, hiding the secret of an old love. Miguel, a mysterious boy, wanders through the city, watching daily for Maria's house. Luís, the mayor, seeks to solve the problem of hundreds of people with cataracts in the Municipality. The reading of a letter addressed to his brother Theo is the metaphorical starting point of this suggestive immersion in the work and the places that Vincent Van Gogh lived in a key moment of his artistic life, the one in which he abandoned the faith to rediscover himself the world of painting in the Belgian mining town of Borinage.
