Chinnadurai gets killed but before his death reveals to Kalyanam that he has a twin elder brother who lives with his mother in Madras. The manager and his henchmen befool Kalyanam and loot the estate with ease but eventually murder him by throwing him off a cliff when he discovers their true designs. Shenbagam who witnesses the murder turns mentally unstable. However Kalyanam is not finished entirely as his spectre contacts his twin brother Raman (the elder Kamal Haasan) and the rest of the story revolves around how they together seek to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Raja, the son of a poor and widowed washerwoman, is well-talented in the arts from his childhood. Thengai Srinivasan who runs a drama troupe is impressed with Raja's talent and enlists him in this troupe and Raja's mother travels with the troupe as well. While performing in a zameen with the troupe, Raja meets and falls in love with the zamindar's pretty daughter Bhuvana and they engage in a secretive romance assisted by Bhuvana's pet peacock named Vadivelan. When the zamindar becomes aware of their relationship, he agrees to get them only married only if Raja cuts all ties with his mother, considering her poor status. Raja expectedly refuses and unable to convince her adamant father, Bhuvana elopes with Raja and joins the troupe as well. This enrages the zamindar's villainous nephew Mohan, who had been eyeing the zameen's ownership by marrying Bhuvana. Whether Raja and Bhuvana are able to thwart the odds against them form the rest of the story.

Prasanna (Kamal Haasan) is nursed back to health by a classical singer Bhairavi (Srividya) after a bloody street-side fight. The two are slowly drawn to each other and decide to marry in spite of their age difference and a past relationship that Bhairavi is still inextricably tied to. In the meantime, Prasanna's father (Major Sundararajan) embarks on a relationship with the young Ranjini (Jayasudha). We soon find out that Ranjini is Bhiaravi's daughter (born to her out of wedlock). Both relationships arrive at a dilemma with an unexpected twist when Bhairavi's long-lost husband (Rajinikanth) comes into picture.

Pasupathy finally manages to find Parvati, and soon Suresh a notorious smuggler imprisons Shankar, and impersonates him, for his wealth.Parvati is forced to play along, as Suresh threatens to kill Shankar. The rest of story unveils who won in the end, Shankar or the evil forvces.

Shankar is a lawyer and a man with a heart of gold. One of his clients entrusts huge amount of money to him, which gets stolen before he deposits it in the court. When his attempts to borrow money fails, accidentally a boxful of money and jewels reach his home. He rejoices and replaces his client's money with this against his wife Vijaya's will, but he tells her that there is no other alternative. Everything seems to be going hunky-dory until Manikam, a taxi driver, starts blackmailing him. Shankar's daughter Raji is upset that her father is harassed. She tries to seek the help of police. The owner of the box found to be father-in-law of Shankar's brother. Vijaya confesses about the box to him without Shankar's knowledge. When Shankar finds out about this, he thinks everything is finished. The police arrest him for killing Manikam. Worse still, Shankar's daughter Raji, who is the sole witness to the murder, becomes speechless due to shock. Rest of story is solving mystery.

Srikanth informs about this to his lover and request her to wait for him until he finishes this case. Srikanth promises he will return for her and sets out to Kodaikanal. On arriving, he is welcomed by Jayalalaitha's parents who are very much distressed with their daughter's condition. Srikanth questions them about her past but they conceal initially as it might have a severe consequence on her future. Upon reiteration that knowing her past will be very useful for him to cure her, Jayalalitha parents reveal her awful past. Jayalalitha at a very young age got married and within hours, the couple meet with an accident and her spouse dies.
