Don Gilberto Zaragoza is a wealthy man whose life is drawing to an end. As he deliberates on the fate of his fortune, his family tries to speed up his demise.

Eva has returned from her trip to Europe. Back at home, she receives a suspicious invitation to a dinner birthday party of one of her neighbors, without knowing that this is a romantic date arranged by his neighbor's tricky family which, to make things worse, has no food in the refrigerator.

The plot follows a private detective, an ex communist and former CIA agent, who travels from Barcelona to Madrid to discover the identity of the assassin of the leader of the Spanish Communist party who was stabbed during a blackout while presiding over a meeting of the party's central committee. The film is a thriller with ironic political overtones.
