Sakoda Yui a cheerful and positive third year high school student, lives in a seaside town. She is the only daughter of a couple who are hairstylists and run a small hair salon. Narukawa Sana is a young CEO who founded the startup "Dream Pony" that deals with educational apps when she was 23. Although reckless, Narukawa has a goal and that is to make "Dream Pony" into a unicorn company and that its business is available to everyone all over the world within 10 years. The company did well when it was first launched but Narukawa became frustrated as there hasn't been any huge growth. Narukawa dedicates her time mostly on her work and has been neglecting her private life and romance. One day, a middle-aged salaryman Kotori Satoshi decides to change his job and starts working at "Dream Pony". At first, Narukawa is not fond of Kotori but the two become closer as Kotori helps Narukawa by giving advices based on his experiences. Meanwhile, Narukawa's co-founder Suzaki Ko has been in love with Narukawa but he is unable to suppress his feelings after the arrival of Kotori. The team now gets caught in a triangle between work and love.

Although the situation is universal, Japanese mourning rituals are given solid coverage. The 49th day after death is considered crucial, as the date at which the soul passes from this world to the next and, therefore, the date from when the living are expected to get on with life. Iwai, one of Japan’s most exciting directors, tells a beautiful and dream-like story through the precious eyes of Ryoko Hirosue. The heavenly tint of the picture and the serene piano playing makes ARITA easily an audience favorite.

At 55, Kan-ichi Kanzaki is the old-fashioned and overbearing father of the Kanzaki family: his wife Miyako, his son Tadashi, and his two daughters Sayuri and Suzu. Being an “oyaji,” a stubborn middle-aged man that cannot keep his opinion to himself, Kan-ichi is particularly bothered when he views what he believes to be a failure in the public’s morals. But unlike the occasional stranger, his kids have to live under his scrutiny every day, and there are plenty of family crises to draw his ire. Although he can be strict, his actions are driven by his love for his family, and one can’t help but be touched and amused by the loving efforts of such an “oyaji.”

The two share a room, with Hiromi trying to make friends, and Kaito at first resisting, unimpressed by Hiromi's devil-may-care attitude. Slowly over the ensuing episodes, Kaito becomes more and more at home in this sleepy rural town, and begins to wonder if he should give up his pursuit of success in the big city, and try to relax, and enjoy himself more. When he returns to Tokyo to finish his work, Hiromi and Makoto come to lure him back, but when he returns to the B&B, his boss and girlfriend Sakura likewise come looking for him.

A music school graduate, Sena worked part-time teaching piano after failing to move on to graduate school. One day, an older woman named Minami comes to visit Sena’s apartment, dressed in a bridal gown. Minami explained that she had been engaged to Sena’s roommate, but that he did not show up for the wedding. Minami then decides to stay in the apartment to wait for her fiancé. And so this is how Minami and Sena begin their strange life together. Sena tries to cheer up Minami by telling her that “when life isn’t going your way, just think of that time as a long vacation, given by God.” However, Sena also has his share of problems and is finding it hard to believe in himself. He is also dealing with frustrations in his relationship with a girl at school, which seemed to be going nowhere. With their own sets of problems, Sena and Minami slowly grow to be indispensible to each other. The story follows the heart of a man so pure that he has difficulty expressing himself, and his relationship with a woman who is inspired by his innocent soul to retrieve the emotions she had forgotten.

Aya travels to Tokyo and encounters Takumi Nagai, Shūichi's brother. The sequel series, Heaven's Coin 2 (Zoku Hoshi no Kinka), continues where the previous series left off. The third series, Shin Hoshi no Kinka uses a new set of characters. The song Aoi Usagi by Noriko Sakai was used as the opening theme.
