Rahul embarks on a journey to a small town in Tamil Nadu to fulfill the last wish of his grandfather: to have his ashes immersed in the Holy water of Rameshwaram. En route, he meets a woman hailing from a unique family down South. As they find love through this journey in the exuberant lands of South India, an unanticipated drive awaits them.
Picking up the storyline from where Singam ended, Duraisingam (Suriya) has gone undercover after meeting the Home Minister and is working as an NCC officer in a school in Thoothukudi. The only people who know about this operation are the Chief Minister and Home Minister apart from himself.
The story, set in the backdrop of Nallore, a small town in Thoothukudi District, revolves around Sub-Inspector Durai Singam (Surya), a brave and just policeman who serves in his hometown primarily to fulfill his father’s (Radha Ravi) wish. Durai Singam settles every dispute in his town patiently with his words of wisdom and resorts to force only when the situation demands it. Kavya (Anushka), a city girl who comes on vacation to Nallore, falls in love with Durai Singam. Erimalai (Vivek), Durai Singam's bumbling colleague and friend, often accompanies him.

Arunachalam, the son of a prominent village elder, discovers the truth about his past.
In the past, the young Seethalakshmi became pregnant but she didn't reveal the father's identity. To punish her, the village chief Periya Ayya ordered her to live alone in a small hut and after the childbirth, he took her newborn son. Whereas, Dharmaraj and Varalakshmi got married. Periya Ayya then sent the baby to another village. Many years later, Sakthi comes back to his village and he becomes the manager of the village's temple. Sakthi thinks that he is an orphan. Afterward, Sakthi and Raani fall in love with each other. Soon, Varalakshmi's brother Sethupathi tries to rob the temple's costly things. On his first attempt, Sethupathi's henchmen fail because of Sakthi. The second time, he robs the temple's Kalasam. He then traps the innocent Sakthi and Periya Ayya dismisses him. After accidentally meeting, Mridula (Nagma) and Arun (Prabhu Deva) fall in love. Chellakannu and Chandra are cousins, they loved each other since their childhood. Chandra leaves the village for studying when she is back, their family tries to marry them. Aruna Arunachalam (Manorama) is an estate owner in Ooty and she is in trouble with Thiruttani (Anandaraj), who keep illegally some hectares of her estate. Student leader in his college, popular collegian, Prabhu, is asked by the Principal to invite the Governor of state, Ranjit Singh Rathore, to be the chief guest on the annual day of the college. When he goes to invite Ranjit, he meets his daughter, Shruthi, and falls in love with her. She too falls in love with him. Since there is fear of terrorism in the state, Ranjit does not permit his daughter to travel without bodyguards. On one occasion, she does manage to give them the slip and runs away with Prabhu at a dance festival in Chidambaram. Shortly thereafter there is a threat of a bomb being planted there, Shruthi is returned home, and Prabhu arrested. Shruthi is forbidden to see Prabhu, Prabhu is released from police custody, after a severe beating.
